I start thinking about what things are assembled, like bricks in a wall or pieces in a jigsaw puzzle, but assembly also meant community to me, people assembling. Perhaps because I was going food shopping at the time I thought how you assemble foods (things) in order to make a meal, which you then share in an assembly of family or friends (people).
I found I was totally absorbed by the task for about 3 hours, just listing to the radio and sewing. Apart from one ear on a play something to do with Franz Kafka (!?) my only thoughts were about the decisions I needed to make for my square.
The design was both restricted and also dictated by the colours and materials. I enjoyed the doing so much I wondered why I didn’t do this more often, but then it would be what to do, why, what to use?  Almost too many possibilities and choices that limit actually just starting something. I think it is interesting that the boundaries of the limited choice provided are actually liberating, enabling the going forward and doing. So now I want to do more but obviously need to answer some of my what & why questions first!
